Dear Minister Mackay:

I am a former resident of the Little Catalina - Bonavista area. The first big screen movie I saw in my life was at the Garrick Theatre. I remember it to this day.The Garrick Theatre was an integral part of growing up in this area.

I was delighted when restoration began on the building. It truly is a historic site. With all the other restoration going on in the town, I felt the theatre would become the gathering place for tourists and locals to share a truly rich cultural heritage. I'm not sure if you are aware that the Bonavista Peninsular is a culture of storytellers. The unbelievable wit and humor of the residents is unmatched anywhere. Music is a way of life in most households. There is so much to be shared.

I learned with deep regret recently, that the interior of the building may not be completed. I could not believe that such a decision was made.It reminded me of the decision to delay the opening of "The Rooms", in St John's a couple of years back. What a lost opportunity!

Please reconsider this decision, and let the local people build the Garrick Theatre into a world class facility. They can and they will.

Yours sincerely,
Velma Dalton Boudreau
