Dear Minister MacKay,
I am writing you concerning the re-opening of the Garrick Theatre, and the obstacles the group is facing with that issue. As a young person in this town, I feel that my opinion is valid, and should be taken into consideration, as are the opinions of everyone else. There are countless numbers of young people in this town who need an investment in their lives, in some way, shape, or form, so that they might get a head start in being good, law abiding citizens that contribute to society, and the economy in general. There are very few resources in this town for people such as this, therefore, they resort to things that lead to no good. I am not suggesting that the reopening of the Garrick Theatre would be the magical cure to every problem concerning young people in this town, but it would be a step in the right direction, to give young people something productive, and entertaining to do, along with the many other benefits the reopening of the theatre would reap. The Government constantly claims to be concerned about the growth of it's municipalities, and they express their genuine care for the people who live there. They want the young people to head down a road that will lead them to being good citizens. But I fail to see anything to prove the Government's concern for these people. As I have previously stated, I'm sure that the reopening of this theatre wouldn't immediatley cure all of our problems, but it would help. It would give an opportunity to the young and old of this town, to develop their skills and interests in the acting field, and other arts, whereas such opportunities are very limited in this town. It would give the average teenager something to do on a Friday or Saturday night, therefore, keeping them off the streets, where just about everything takes place. Also, it would be an immeasurable asset to the tourism industry in this town, and we wouldn't have to rely on the Fish Plant with so much desperation. It is investments such as these, that may not immediatley lead to wealth and well-being in a community, but it will eventually reap benefits for everyone.
So I urge you once again, put actions to the words that you so generously give. Follow through, and aid with the reopening of the Garrick Theatre.
Yours sincerely,
Josh Devereaux
