Dear Minister MacKay,
I want to add my name to the list of supporters for the Garrick Theatre. I grew up in Bonavista and one of our treats for the week was to go to a movie in the Garrick Theatre. I left at age 15 and have been living in St. John's since.
I am a big supporter here in the city of live theatre and attend almost everything that is presented here. I am disappointed that ACOA has decided, in its wisdom, to stop the renovations on this theatre, thus denying the people of Bonavista a chance to see live theatre. Growing up in a Newfoundland outport does not give people much entertainment in the arts and in this day and age everyone needs something other than television in their lives to round out their life experiences.
Please reconsider the decision to finish this Theatre, I am sure that it would in no way interfere with the Summer in the Bight in Trinity. Which by the way I have attended many times. But the best of all is that there would be a place for the people of Bonavista to hone their acting skills and a place in the long winter months to be able to attend a movie or see a play.
Thank you for your concern.
Yours sincerely,
Yvonne (Abbott) Bradbury
